about

>>This is a trip to the earth's end. We are going to a region in the outer north-west of the Bretagne (Brittany) in France, that is called Finistère. (The Romans called it Finis Terrae.) The people of the ancient megalith-culture, that already existed here more than five thousand years ago, and much later the Celts and the Romans believed, that this was the outer border of the earth. If we wouldn't know it better, this bizarre landscape could make us believe it too!<<
We only wanted to go on holiday, actually. Lambert and I (Christian Schimmöller) went to Brittany in June 1997 to relax in an old stone-cottage. We took some instruments with us, because we wanted to make some music just for fun. The fascinating landscape of Brittany enchanted us! We started playing spontanously without discussing what to play. Our DAT-deck recorded all of that stuff. When we listened to these recordings later, we were fascinated by the atmospheres we had created and decided to put them on a CD. Some things had to be edited because our equipment didn't enjoy the sea-climate quite as much as we did, and sometimes behaved badly. Some cuts were made and environmental recordings (I made them on location with a DAT and a dummy-head microphone!) and effects were mixed into it. Besides that, these "First-Take Live-Session" recordings were left as they were.

about

Palantir Lingen, Germany

"Palantír" has been a project by composer/audio engineer Christian Schimmöller since 1991. In Tolkien's fantasy world "Palantír" is translated as "what glances at the very distant" and is the name for an ancient crystal ball that can be used to look at distant places and for telepathic communication with remote persons. For me music can also have this ability.
Palantir pioneered 3D-audio in 2000.
